Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza’s attack reports emerged from Jhelum after a gunman opened fire outside the Quran and Sunnah Academy on Sunday, prompting a police response in which the assailant was killed while the scholar remained unharmed.
The incident took place while Mirza was delivering his routine lecture at the academy. An unidentified attacker suddenly opened indiscriminate fire, creating panic at the site.
Police said their personnel responded quickly and neutralised the attacker during an exchange of fire. Officials said the prompt action prevented a bigger loss of life.
During the attack, Constable Ahsan, who was on duty at the academy, suffered a bullet wound to his leg. Authorities shifted him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi, Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani, took immediate notice of the incident and sought a detailed report.

He also ordered a full investigation and directed authorities to identify any facilitators who may have supported the attacker. Law enforcement teams have started collecting evidence from the scene.
Following the attack, authorities placed the area on high security alert. Police deployed additional personnel at sensitive locations to maintain order and prevent any further incidents.
Officials said no casualties other than the injured constable were reported. They also confirmed that Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza remained safe.
The incident is not the first reported attack involving the scholar. Earlier this year, in February, he escaped another alleged attempt to target him during a photo session at the same academy.
Police arrested the attacker in that earlier case. The report also states that he was arrested in August last year under 3-MPO and later released on bail in December.
