KARACHI, Sindh: Sindh private schools may set their own weekly schedules and do not have to follow the six-day timetable imposed on government schools, the education department said.

The Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions issued a circular confirming the exemption for privately managed schools across the province.

Additional Director of Registration Rafia Javed said private schools could determine their working days according to their schedules and operational needs.

The clarification followed a July 29 notification that directed public and private schools to operate from Monday through Saturday. The six-day schedule took effect on Aug. 1 after the summer vacation.

The new circular confirmed that the earlier directive would not apply to privately managed schools. Government schools must continue academic activities six days a week until further notice.

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah also said private schools could determine their class schedules in accordance with their institutional policies.

The clarification applies to private schools. The College Education Department issued a separate six-day-week notification covering college.
