For months, “Emily Hart” appeared to be a rising voice in U.S. political social media circles. But the Emily Hart AI influencer has now been revealed as entirely artificial, created by a medical student in India using artificial intelligence tools.
The account gained millions of views before being taken down, raising fresh concerns about how easily fake identities can spread online.
Emily Hart was not a real person but an AI-generated influencer created by a 22-year-old medical student using tools like Google Gemini. The account built a large following through viral content and monetisation strategies before being removed for violating platform rules.
How the Emily Hart Persona Was Built
According to WIRED, the creator initially struggled to grow a general social media presence. He then used AI tools to design a targeted persona that would appeal to a specific audience. The fictional influencer was presented as a nurse and combined lifestyle imagery with political messaging. Within weeks, engagement surged, with videos reaching millions of views per post.
The success of the Emily Hart AI influencer was driven by algorithms and audience behaviour. The creator described how each post triggered massive reach, sometimes drawing between 3 million and 10 million views.
Controversial posts played a key role. By provoking both supporters and critics, the account generated engagement from all sides. This increased visibility regardless of whether users agreed with the content.
The strategy also led to revenue opportunities through merchandise promotion and subscription-based platforms, requiring minimal daily effort from the creator.
Researchers say the case reflects a broader trend in digital media. Valerie Wirtschafter of the Brookings Institution told WIRED that AI tools are making fake personas increasingly believable.
Even when users suspect content is artificial, engagement continues, driven by curiosity or alignment with the message. The account was eventually removed after being flagged for fraudulent activity, but similar profiles continue to appear online.

AI influencers are built using tools that generate realistic images, text and video. Creators design a character, define its personality and produce consistent content to build an audience.
Users often engage with AI influencers because the content aligns with their interests or emotions. Visual realism and strong messaging make these accounts feel authentic, even when users are unsure if they are real.
Most platforms allow AI-generated content if it follows guidelines, including disclosure rules. However, accounts can be removed if they violate policies, such as those against impersonation or misleading users.
