Paris: Celebrated French philosopher and sociologist Edgar Morin dies at the age of 104, his family confirmed on Saturday.
His wife, Sabah Abouessalam Morin, announced his passing through a formal statement sent to Agence France-Presse in Paris.
Specifically, she noted that the intellectual guide remained highly attentive to human issues until his final days. Morin achieved global recognition in 1961 as the co-inventor of the “cinema verite” documentary style.
Consequently, his unscripted film “Chronicle of a Summer,” directed by Jean Rouch, revolutionised international documentary filmmaking.
Born in Paris to secular Jewish immigrants, Morin actively served in the anti-Nazi French Resistance during World War II.

Therefore, he later led official military propaganda efforts in post-war Germany before joining the national research institute CNRS.
