The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday cancelled a notification declaring Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Irfanullah Marwat winner on Sindh Assembly constituency, PS-144, in Karachi.
On July 25, an election tribunal had declared null and void the results in PS-144 and ordered reelection in the constituency won by Marwat, an influential candidate of ruling PML-N in Karachi during last year’s general elections.
The tribunal had issued its orders on a set of petitions filed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Rauf Siddiqui and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Israr Abbasi who had challenged Marwat’s victory.
Today, the ECP cancelled Marwat’s Sindh Assembly membership by revoking a notification of his victory.
