Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh’s historical drama “Satluj” will screen in Gurdwaras and community centres after it was withdrawn from major OTT platforms due to censorship and licensing issues.
The film’s creators said the move would bypass commercial streaming platforms and take the Punjabi film directly to its intended audience. The screenings will take place in community venues rather than on digital release channels.
“Satluj” centres on social, political and cultural events linked to Punjab’s rivers and their historical significance. The streaming platforms declined to stream the film due to its sensitive historical narrative.
The screening model will include projectors and family viewing arrangements at selected Gurdwaras and community centres. Organisers plan to keep entry free or donation-based via Dasvandh, in line with the film’s distribution plan.
Initial screenings are planned across Punjab. The makers also plan community shows in diaspora hubs, including the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
