Karachi, Sindh: At least 11 people were injured on Sunday night after a speeding car crashed into a tent set up for a religious gathering near Saba Avenue in DHA Phase 6, police said.
Police officials said the vehicle first hit several pedestrians before tearing through a canopy outside an imambargah. The crash took place at about 9:26 pm, according to CCTV footage from the scene.
SSP South Mehzor Ali said police took the driver and two other people into custody after the incident. He said the number of injured rose from an initial five to 11 as more victims reached hospitals for treatment.
Security camera footage showed the car entering the road at high speed before losing control. The video showed bystanders running as the vehicle struck people and then ploughed into the makeshift tent.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the DHA Phase 6 crash and sought a detailed report from the Additional Inspector General of Police, the Chief Minister’s House said in a statement.

The statement said the chief minister was informed that the vehicle’s brakes had apparently failed before the crash. Shah directed police to impound the vehicle, arrest the driver and submit a full inquiry report.
Police said investigators were checking whether mechanical failure or driver negligence caused the accident. Shah also prayed for the early recovery of those injured, according to the statement.
