Promoter Eddie Hearn claimed Conor Benn fights against three world champions were rejected before the British boxer secured a deal with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing.
Hearn said Benn turned down proposed bouts with Lewis Crocker, Rolando Romero and Josh Kelly. This is according to a Boxing News report published May 5, 2026.
The report said Hearn made the remarks during a media huddle. It also said Benn’s promotional contract with Matchroom Boxing remained intact.
Hearn said he proposed a world welterweight title fight against Crocker at London’s O2 Arena after Crocker won the title.
He said Benn declined the bout and later raised concerns over the International Boxing Federation’s 10lb rehydration policy.
Hearn also said a fight with WBA welterweight champion Rolando Romero had been agreed with Romero’s manager Luis DeCubas. However, Benn dismissed it as not big enough.
The promoter said Benn also rejected a proposed fight with IBF super-welterweight champion Josh Kelly at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light.
Benn entered a one-fight agreement with a new promoter after his collaboration with Matchroom Boxing ended in February.
Benn later chose to face Regis Prograis at a 150lb catchweight. Previously, he fought at middleweight under a 10lb rehydration clause.
