The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts Sindh will experience a “mild cold wave” beginning today as winter intensifies with anticipated rain and snowfall across the country.
The PMD forecasts a noticeable drop in night-time temperatures, particularly in upper Sindh, which could fall between 7 and 9 degrees Celsius.
Central Sindh will likely see temperatures ranging from 9°C to 11°C at night, while in southern Sindh, including Karachi, temperatures are expected to range from 10°C to 12°C. Specifically, Karachi might see temperatures as low as 11°C–13°C tonight and again on Sunday night.
The Met Office also noted that dry and cool winds from the northeast and northwest would persist across the region, contributing to the chill.

Simultaneously, an unusual cold wave has swept Balochistan, with significant temperature drops reported by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). In the mountainous regions near the Afghanistan border, temperatures have plummeted to as low as -7°C. Areas like Shelabagh and Ziarat have recorded temperatures down to -6°C and -5°C, respectively. Chaman, Pishin, Muslim Bagh, and Kan Mehtarzai have experienced temperatures around -3°C.
The severe cold has frozen water in drains and streets in various areas. Starting tomorrow, PDMA forecasts further intensification of the cold in northeastern and central Balochistan.
The Health Department reports that the dry, cold weather has triggered a spread of seasonal illnesses, particularly affecting many children and raising health concerns in the region.
On Friday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted that the ongoing cold wave would intensify with the onset of rain and snowfall starting December 7. The PMD expects moderate rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall over the hills in regions such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, and several others through December 11, with occasional breaks.
The PMD predicts similar weather conditions in Punjab today and tomorrow (December 8). In response, the weather department has urged all concerned authorities to stay alert and take necessary precautions to prevent any adverse situations, especially in northern areas.
