Actor Chloe Cherry criticised the direction of some “Euphoria” storylines in a Refinery29 interview, questioning the show’s handling of sex work as Season 3 draws renewed attention.
Cherry, who joined the HBO Max series in its second season, said contemporary fiction often presents sex work through a narrow idea of empowerment, according to the interview cited in the source material.
The actor said public discussion around digital platforms had created “smoke and mirrors” around the subject, while adding that she did not fully understand how audiences interpret work on OnlyFans.
Cherry linked the rise of such platforms to economic pressure and capitalism, saying people were turning to them because of broader economic conditions rather than solely personal choice.
Her sharpest comments focused on Cassie, the character played by Sydney Sweeney, after the source material said the storyline placed the character near sex work.
Cherry said Cassie’s social position made the plot feel jarring, even while acknowledging that the character’s appearance and profile could make the storyline financially plausible within the show’s world.
