US weapons stockpiles are being rebuilt as Washington increases missile production during the Iran war, while a senior Pentagon official said the military remains ready for major threats.

Michael Duffey, a Pentagon acquisition official, said President Donald Trump and senior defence leaders had made clear that US forces were prepared.

“The U.S. military can defeat any threat at the time and place of our choosing,” Duffey said in an interview.

He said the administration wanted larger weapons reserves as overseas conflicts increased demand for missiles and other munitions.

The Pentagon is working with defence companies to increase production of key missiles, Duffey said. The administration also plans to expand the US defence industrial base for longer-term supply needs.

Duffey said officials would prefer to hold more weapons than current inventories allow. He added that Washington was moving quickly on production agreements with industry partners.

He also blamed the previous Biden administration for failing to expand the industrial base fast enough. That claim was presented as Duffey’s assessment and was not independently verified.
