Beijing, China: China-Bangladesh ties were upgraded Friday as Chinese President Xi Jinping met Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during his official visit to Beijing, Xinhua reported.
The two leaders announced a decision to build a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.
Xi said China would remain a trustworthy friend, neighbour and partner of Bangladesh, regardless of global changes.
He said Beijing supported Bangladesh’s national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Xi said China stood ready to work with Bangladesh on high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

He identified green development, the digital economy, information technology and artificial intelligence as priority areas.
Xi also called for exchanges in healthcare, culture, education and subnational cooperation. He said both sides should advance the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor to improve regional connectivity.
Xi said China wanted stronger communication with Bangladesh in multilateral frameworks, including the United Nations.

Rahman congratulated China on the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. He described China as a valued and trusted partner of Bangladesh.
Rahman said Bangladesh wanted stronger cooperation in trade, connectivity, agriculture, technology, green energy, education and health. He said Bangladesh remained committed to the one-China principle.
Rahman said Bangladesh recognised Taiwan as part of China and opposed any form of “Taiwan independence.”

He also said Bangladesh supported China’s global initiatives and wanted closer coordination on international and regional affairs.
The announcement of China-Bangladesh ties came at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing during Rahman’s official visit.
