Toronto, Canada: Canada drew 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group B opener after substitute Cyle Larin scored a late equaliser on home soil.
Bosnia and Herzegovina took the lead in the 21st minute through Jovo Lukic, leaving Canada chasing the match despite long spells of possession.
Larin entered after 76 minutes and scored less than three minutes later with a turn and shot. Reuters reported that the goal came in the 78th minute as Canada salvaged a point in Toronto.
The Southampton striker said he wanted to play every game and had to show his case when called from the bench. “I showed today I should be playing,” Larin told Canadian TV.
Canada created chances down the wings but lacked a central focal point before Larin’s introduction. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s defence handled most of Canada’s pressure until the late equaliser.
The draw gave Canada its first World Cup point, according to AP and The Guardian. AP reported that the match was played in front of about 43,000 fans at Toronto Stadium.
