The NFL community came together on Monday Night Football for one player’s health. Damar Hamlin, 24, was critically injured during a routine play in the Bills vs. Bengals game.
Hamlin stood up and collapsed after a helmet-to-helmet (or helmet-to-chest) hit. The player was treated for over 20 minutes in an ambulance. He’s intubated and critical.
The scenes were shocking and gut-wrenching 23 minutes after the incident, the player was given an AED, CPR, oxygen, and an IV bag.
Distraught Bills players. Josh Allen was visibly upset, covering his face. While WR Stefon Diggs wept. ESPN was speechless, trying to tell viewers what was happening.
After the incident, the NFL statement stated on Twitter, “Tonight’s Buffalo Bills-Cincinnati Bengals game has been postponed after Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin collapsed, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced. Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics. He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.
Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available. The NFL has been in constant communication with the NFL Players Association which is in agreement with postponing the game.”
