Nick Marsman, the once-vocal critic of Inter Miami’s readiness for a player of Lionel Messi’s calibre, has parted ways with David Beckham’s MLS franchise.
At 32, the Dutch goalkeeper found himself as a free agent after the club decided to exercise its right to terminate his contract. The decision followed Marsman’s criticisms about the club’s infrastructure and security measures, which he aired on ESPN in June.
In his comments, he highlighted the club’s lack of preparedness for a star like Messi, pointing out issues like the temporary stadium and lax security.
The official announcement from Inter Miami CF stated: “Inter Miami CF announced today that it has exercised its Salary Budget Charge buyout on goalkeeper Nick Marsman’s Major League Soccer (MLS) contract.”
Messi’s Dominance in the MLS
Contrary to Marsman’s apprehensions, Lionel Messi’s transition to the MLS has been spectacular. The football legend has quickly become the league’s highlight, with ticket sales for his matches skyrocketing.
His recent performance against FC Dallas is a testament to his unmatched skills and impact, where he managed to net four goals, concluding the match with a clutch 85th-minute free kick. Messi’s continuous stellar performances have ensured Inter Miami remains in the spotlight, drawing massive crowds and solidifying his position as an invaluable asset to the club and the league.
