The former president and co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Asif Ali Zardari, has ruled out the possibility of running for an alliance with the ruling coalition in the upcoming elections.
At a news conference in Vehari, the party’s co-chairman said the PPP would run under the “arrow” symbol in the upcoming elections rather than in coalition with the ruling PDM.
Asif Ali Zardari’s statement came at a time when the speculations regarding tensions between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) intensified,
“We are not a part of the PDM, but we are their partners in the administration,” the PPP stalwart declared before the April 30 general elections in Punjab.
The PPP and the PDM-led government appear to be at war over governance and economic issues as the country endures historic inflation and recovers from terrible flood devastation.
In addition, Zardari stated that Imran Khan, leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is not a politician and hence cannot participate in negotiations.
Zardari said, “That is the interior minister’s prerogative, so why would he contact me?” In response to a question concerning the police’s attempt to arrest the PTI leader and whether he was consulted, he stated that he was not.
In addition to being suspected of money laundering and unlawfully selling Toshakhana presents during his time as prime minister, Khan has evaded law enforcement’s attempts to apprehend him. However, despite the legal obstacles, the PTI leadership is keen to demonstrate its might at a “historic public gathering” in Lahore on Wednesday and is undaunted by them.
