The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) reported a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby areas, including Dhirkot in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday.
According to information, the tremors were felt briefly and shook areas of the neighboring nations of Iran and Afghanistan.
The seismological center reported that the earthquake had a 150-kilometer depth, and its epicenter was in Tajikistan.
A minor earthquake of magnitude 5.8 that shook some of Pakistan on January 5 did not result in any fatalities.
On the Richter scale, the US Geological Survey asserted that the earthquake’s magnitude was 5.5.
According to the seismic center, tremors from the earthquake were felt across the nation, including in Gilgit, Jhelum, Chakwal, Pakpattan, Lakki Marwat, Nowshera, Swat, Malakand, and Azad Kashmir.
The seismological center also reported the earthquake’s epicenter was in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, and its depth was 173 kilometers.
Additionally affected by the earthquake were Peshawar, Lower Dir, Chitral, Khyber District, Waziristan, Tank, Bajaur, Mardan, Parachinar, Murree, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Multan, Sheikhupura, Chiniot, and Kotli.
According to the NSMC, a low-magnitude earthquake with a 4.3 Richter scale struck portions of Punjab at 3:04 pm the day before.
In addition to other areas of the province, the tremors were felt in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Muridke, Farooqabad, Gujranwala, Sharaqpur, and Jaranwala.
The NSMC confirmed that the earthquake’s epicenter was 20 kilometers from Sheikhupura.
