ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has made a record Rs1.2 trillion early loan repayment, the largest single debt payment made ahead of schedule in the country’s history, the Ministry of Finance said.
The ministry said cumulative early debt repayments have now reached about Rs5.92 trillion, bringing the total close to Rs6 trillion.
According to the ministry, Pakistan repaid Rs1.8 trillion before maturity during FY2025 and another Rs2.9 trillion during FY2026.

A further Rs1.2 trillion has been repaid early so far in FY2027, the ministry said.
The federal government described the repayments as part of a more active debt-management strategy aimed at reducing outstanding liabilities and future repayment obligations.
The ministry said lower debt obligations could reduce pressure on public finances and create additional fiscal space for the economy.
