NEW YORK: McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese is the burger three dietitians said customers should skip or reserve for occasional eating.
The burger contains 740 calories, 42 grams of total fat, 20 grams of saturated fat, 1,360 milligrams of sodium and 2 grams of fiber, according to the nutrition breakdown cited in the report.
Lisa Young, Ph.D., RDN, said the two-patty burger is larger than most people need for one meal. She said the portion adds more calories, saturated fat and sodium in one sandwich.
Briana V. Reamer, M.S., RDN, LDN, said double portions also raise saturated fat. The report said the burger contains 98% of the Daily Value for saturated fat.
Sheila Patterson, RD, CDCES, said regular meals high in saturated fat and sodium may not support heart health or healthy blood pressure, especially for people with cardiovascular risk factors.
The report said the burger provides only 2 grams of fibre. It said most adults should aim for about 8 to 10 grams of fiber per meal to help reach daily intake targets.

Dietitians suggested smaller McDonald’s choices for customers who still want a burger. The report said a Quarter.
A Pounder with Cheese saves more than 200 calories, while a McDouble provides 22 grams of protein for 390 calories.
The dietitians also suggested smaller portions, checking nutrition information before ordering, adding vegetables where available and choosing lower-calorie toppings such as mustard.
