MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to US President Donald Trump on the 250th anniversary of American independence, Moscow said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to US President Donald Trump on Saturday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“Dear Mr President, dear Donald,” Putin wrote in the message published in Moscow.
Putin said the signing of the US Declaration of Independence marked the beginning of the American nation and became a milestone in world history.
He said Russia, then under tsarist rule, supported North American colonists in their struggle against British rule.
Putin also cited what he called “many glorious” chapters in 250 years of relations between Russia and the United States. He said both countries had been allies in two world wars and helped free humanity from Nazism.
