The post-mortem report for 7-year-old Sarim, found in a water tank in North Karachi after an 11-day disappearance, reveals multiple injury marks.
According to a police surgeon’s statements, authorities transferred Sarim’s body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for examination, where they collected essential samples. However, they are awaiting a chemical examination report to confirm the cause of death definitively.
The grim discovery occurred near Sarim’s residence, with the water tank’s lid suspiciously covered by a carton, prompting police to investigate potential foul play or an accidental fall.
Sarim’s family, having reported him missing after he didn’t return from a nearby madrasa on January 7, feared abduction. Despite extensive searches, including a thorough examination of 212 flats and the building’s water tanks, the investigation faced setbacks due to a power outage that disabled CCTV operations during the incident. Efforts to gather CCTV footage from neighbouring areas continued.
Amidst this, Sarim’s father received cryptic calls and messages, including ransom demands and requests for the child’s photo, which added layers of complexity to the case. The authorities eventually handed over the investigation to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) following a specific ransom demand for Rs 5 lakh.
Sarim’s mother, in a heartrending appeal on ARY News, begged for her son’s return. She highlighted the tragedy of her younger son not returning home when his brother did. She also pointed out the unfortunate timing of the CCTV outage during the power cut, which hampered the investigation.
This tragic event has left the community in shock, with the exact circumstances of Sarim’s death still under intense scrutiny as investigators piece together the events that led to this heartbreaking incident.
