Aerial firing during New Year’s celebrations in Karachi resulted in injuries to 29 individuals, who were subsequently treated at various hospitals.
The Karachi Commissioner had enforced Section 144 for 48 hours starting December 31 to curb such activities. Despite these measures, the city witnessed significant injuries due to celebratory gunfire and fireworks, a recurring issue each New Year’s Eve.

The Karachi Police and Edhi Foundation confirmed on Wednesday that the injuries were due to stray bullets, with further investigations ongoing.
Civil Hospital treated six individuals, including two 25-year-olds from Kumharwada in Lyari, a 23-year-old from Denso Market, a 55-year-old from Nishtar Road, and two others from Lyari, aged 18 and 23.
Jinnah Hospital received nine patients from various districts, such as Shah Faisal Colony, Tariq Road, and Malir. The victims ranged in age from an 11-year-old boy to a 50-year-old woman.
Abbasi Shaheed Hospital reported the highest number of casualties, including a 35-year-old from Sohrab Goth and individuals from Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, Orangi Town, and other areas. The ages of these victims ranged from 12 to 29 years.
