“007 First Light” introduces Irish actor Patrick Gibson as a younger James Bond in a video game origin story released on May 27.
The game follows Bond before he earns his “00” status and licence to kill. It presents a less experienced version of Ian Fleming’s British spy.
Danish studio IO Interactive, known for the “Hitman” series, developed the game. Narrative director Martin Emborg said the title includes action, charm and spy-work gameplay.

Gibson said reading “Casino Royale” showed him how rich and complex Bond is. He said the younger Bond carries “a wound” that becomes powerful when matched with purpose.

The release comes as Amazon MGM Studios develops the next Bond film, with “Dune” filmmaker Denis Villeneuve set to direct. No next cinematic Bond actor has been confirmed.
The game keeps several franchise hallmarks, including Aston Martin cars, Omega watches and humour. Long-time Bond composer David Arnold co-wrote the score, which features vocals from Lana Del Rey.
