Alexander Zverev will face Italy’s Flavio Cobolli in Sunday’s French Open final in Paris as the German targets his first Grand Slam title.
Zverev has lost three previous major finals. He fell to Dominic Thiem at the 2020 US Open, Carlos Alcaraz at Roland Garros and Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open. The 29-year-old enters the final as favourite and leads Cobolli 3-1 in their head-to-head record.
Zverev beat Cobolli at Roland Garros last year and in Halle. Cobolli beat him in Munich this season before Zverev responded in Madrid. “The only thing I can control is that I play good tennis,” Zverev said.
Both players have dropped only two sets in Paris this year. Zverev reached the final by beating Jakub Mensik in four sets on Friday. Cobolli advanced without playing his semi-final after Matteo Arnaldi withdrew because of illness.
Cobolli, 24, has already secured a top-10 ranking with his run at Roland Garros. A win in the final would lift him to fifth.
The Italian is chasing his country’s first men’s French Open title since 1976. Zverev is seeking to become Germany’s first men’s Grand Slam champion since Boris Becker won the Australian Open 30 years ago.
