The world’s first flying car has officially entered production, marking a major milestone in the future of personal transportation.

U.S.-based Alef Aeronautics has begun manufacturing its Alef Model A Ultralight at its Silicon Valley facility. The company confirmed that the vehicle, which combines road driving with vertical flight capability, is now moving from concept to reality.

The Alef Model A features eight concealed propellers integrated into the vehicle’s bonnet and rear section, allowing it to take off vertically and fly over traffic congestion. Despite its advanced aviation technology, the vehicle can also drive on public roads like a conventional electric car.

Alef Aeronautics stated that craftspeople will handcraft the first units and deliver them to a limited group of customers. The initial rollout evaluates real-world performance, safety, and usability before the company advances to full-scale production.

Unlike flying taxis that rely on dedicated landing pads or airports, the Model A is designed for direct road-to-air operation. The company emphasised that owners can drive to a destination, take off vertically when needed, and land without specialised infrastructure.

Alef Aeronautics CEO Jim Dukhovny said the team met all development milestones and remained on schedule. He added that the start of production represents years of engineering work and regulatory engagement.

The Model A uses electric vertical take-off and landing technology, enabling wingless flight powered entirely by electricity. Alef claims the vehicle can carry a driver-pilot and one passenger, reach speeds of up to 200 miles per hour on the road, and fly at speeds of up to 110 miles per hour.

The Federal Aviation Administration granted the Alef Model A an airworthiness certificate in 2023, clearing a major regulatory hurdle. Alef Aeronautics has also secured approximately 3,500 pre-orders, valued at nearly $800 million, highlighting strong market interest.

Priced at around £235,000, the Alef Model A positions itself as a premium innovation aimed at early adopters seeking an alternative to traditional urban mobility.
