World Cup championship rings will be awarded for the first time to the winners of Sunday’s Spain-Argentina final, FIFA announced.
The governing body will produce 30 bespoke rings for the champions. This is in addition to the FIFA World Cup Trophy and traditional gold medals. The winning captain and head coach will receive temporary rings during the post-match ceremony, according to FIFA’s announcement.
Permanent versions will be customised to represent the winning national team and individually fitted before being presented at a later date. One side will feature the World Cup Trophy. Meanwhile, the other will carry details identifying the 2026 champions.
The players’ rings will form part of a limited edition of 2,026 individually numbered pieces. FIFA said the remaining 1,996 rings would be offered to supporters worldwide as officially licensed products.
Championship rings are commonly awarded in major North American competitions, including the National Football League, National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball and National Hockey League. FIFA said the 2026 award would be the first of its kind at a FIFA competition.
Spain and defending champion Argentina will contest the FIFA World Cup 2026 final at New York-New Jersey Stadium on July 19. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. local time.
