Chinese Foreign Minister and a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Wang Yi, is set to preside over a high-level UN Security Council meeting in New York focused on the Palestinian-Israeli issue on November 29.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin highlighted China’s active involvement in international peace efforts.
As the rotating president of the UN Security Council for November, China is leveraging this position to facilitate in-depth discussions and consensus-building among parties to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The aim is to foster a truce, ensure civilian protection, and support a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian question through the two-state solution. These objectives were emphasized during a regular press briefing by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Under China’s presidency, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2712 on November 15, marking a significant step. This resolution, the first Council action on Gaza since the conflict’s escalation on October 7, calls for urgent and extended humanitarian pauses and corridors throughout the Gaza Strip. The resolution is indicative of China’s proactive approach in its role as the Security Council’s president.
