The United Nations and United States have welcomed the bill passed by Pakistan’s parliament against honour killings.
Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary General Farhan Haq said the United Nations has been expressing its concern over the cases of so-called honour killings and anything that is done to end this practice was welcome.
Meanwhile, the United States has also appreciated the legislation against the honour killings.
State Department Spokesperson John Kirby in a briefing said the passage of this bill is a good gesture and an important milestone for the protection of women in Pakistan.
He said spreading of awareness and bringing the culprits into justice is vital.
John Kirby said the US will continue supporting Islamabad on these steps. The State Department spokesperson has also encouraged Pakistan and India to hold dialogue over the issue of Kashmir.
Kirby said the US has been working to deescalate tensions in the region. (APP)
