HBO has ordered an eight-episode “Crazy Rich Asians” series, reuniting Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh to continue the 2018 film.
In Thursday’s announcement, HBO confirmed Wu, Golding and Chieng as series regulars, with Yeoh returning in a recurring role. The hour-long drama picks up after the movie’s events and draws on Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novels.
Adele Lim, who co-wrote the film, returns as showrunner and executive producer through her company, 100 Tigers. She described television as a chance to explore more of Kwan’s characters and their worlds than a single sequel film could.
“It’s a Crazy Rich family reunion!” Lim said.
Director Jon M. Chu joins the executive-producing team alongside Kwan and Colour Force’s Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. Jacobson and Simpson produced the original movie, bringing further continuity to the adaptation.
HBO and Warner Bros. Television will co-produce the series.
Development began in early 2025 after plans for a feature sequel based on “China Rich Girlfriend” stalled. The television order now gives the returning cast and creative team a confirmed follow-up project.

Channing Dungey, chairman of Warner Bros. Television Group and US Networks, welcomed the story’s move from books to film and television. She praised Kwan’s fictional world and Lim’s return to adapt it.
Kwan published “Crazy Rich Asians” in 2013, followed by “China Rich Girlfriend” in 2015 and “Rich People Problems” in 2017. Filming is due to begin in 2027.
