Former President Donald Trump has launched a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS, triggered by a “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.
The 19-page legal complaint, filed on Thursday, accuses the network of “partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference,” alleging selective editing of Harris’s responses.
Trump’s legal team also demands that CBS release the unedited interview footage.
Throughout October, Trump voiced his dissatisfaction with the segment, particularly criticizing the airing of varied responses to a question about the Gaza conflict on “Face The Nation” and “60 Minutes.” According to the complaint, this manipulation aimed to damage Trump’s electoral prospects.
His lawyers claim that CBS’s alteration of the ’60 Minutes’ interview” significantly harmed President Trump’s fundraising and support, particularly in Texas.”
In response, a CBS spokesperson told Reuters, “The lawsuit filed by Trump against CBS is baseless, and we will defend against it vigorously.”
The lawsuit also portrays Harris’s ascent as part of an “unprecedented and anti-democratic political coup” and criticizes the “Democratic Party establishment” and “legacy media organizations.”
This legal action follows Trump’s recent statements at a rally about challenging CBS’s broadcasting rights in the U.S., where he suggested that the network “should be taken off the air.”
Before this lawsuit, CBS had dismissed Trump’s allegations as unfounded. Their vice president of legal affairs maintained that “the interview was not manipulated” and denied any concealment of Harris’s responses.
