President Donald Trump has introduced a new “gold card” visa program, which proposes U.S. residency and a pathway to citizenship for investors ready to invest $5 million.

The US gold card program will launch in two weeks and aims to replace the existing EB-5 investor visa program.

President Trump announced the program from the Oval Office, alongside Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, detailing that the “gold card” will cost approximately $5 million. This fee grants green card privileges and is payable directly to the U.S. government. “We’re going to be selling a gold card,” Trump stated, emphasizing a shift from the EB-5 program to what he described as a more streamlined and direct investment into the U.S. economy.

While the complete details of the plan remain under wraps, Trump mentioned that the new measure would not require congressional approval. Secretary Lutnick noted that the funds raised through this program would contribute to reducing the federal deficit. He assured that all applicants would undergo thorough vetting to ensure they meet the criteria of “wonderful, world-class, global citizens.”

The announcement aligns with President Trump’s broader immigration strategy, which has been marked by stricter policies in his second term. These include promises of extensive deportation efforts and enhanced security at the southern U.S. border. Furthermore, Trump has issued warnings of tariffs against Canada and Mexico unless they intensify efforts to curb the flow of fentanyl, other illegal drugs, and undocumented migrants into the U.S.
