On August 19, 2025, TikTok unveiled its Campus Connect feature, designed to help college students across the United States connect with peers on their campus. Echoing the early days of Facebook, this innovative tool aims to foster community, enhance social interactions, and support academic networking among students.

Students can activate Campus Connect by accessing their TikTok profile, selecting “Add school,” and entering their college name and graduation year. Verification requires an academic email address. Once verified, their profile displays their college and graduation year, enabling them to explore their school’s dedicated page, filter by class year, and connect with other students. Profiles can be sorted by follower count for easier discovery.

In a move reminiscent of Facebook's early days, TikTok is launching a new feature that allows college students to find and connect with others on their campus. https://t.co/K3TIa6jqDE

TikTok attracts 1.6 billion monthly active users, with 70% aged 18 to 34, making it an ideal platform to engage Gen Z. The Campus Connect feature allows students to share their campus experiences, collaborate on projects, and build friendships through short-form videos. This feature competes with similar initiatives, such as Instagram’s developing college networking tool, enhancing TikTok’s appeal among young users.

Campus Connect will revolutionise student interactions by providing a vibrant platform to share campus culture and events. By helping students connect based on common academic and social interests, it aims to increase engagement and foster lasting networks—much like early social media platforms did for colleges.

Amid challenges like potential U.S. regulatory scrutiny, TikTok’s Campus Connect demonstrates its commitment to user-centric innovation. Initially launched in the U.S., the feature may expand globally, promising to redefine how college students connect in the digital age.
