International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi urged a diplomatic solution to the dispute over Iran’s nuclear programme on Tuesday, warning against further military action.
Speaking to Colombia’s Caracol Radio, Grossi said he remained committed to negotiations despite concerns about Tehran’s nuclear activities.
“As a diplomat, I always pursue political and diplomatic solutions,” he said. Grossi described Iran’s nuclear programme as highly ambitious and said Tehran had not provided all the transparency the agency required.
He pointed to Iran’s uranium enrichment at 60% purity, describing it as the only country without nuclear weapons enriching uranium to that level.
The IAEA chief also acknowledged that military strikes had substantially damaged Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Grossi said the attacks had caused significant physical deterioration to facilities associated with the programme.
