Hawaiian surfer and actor Tamayo Perry, known for his roles in TV shows and movies such as “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Hawaii Five-O,” tragically died in a shark attack in Hawaii.
Perry, 49, was fatally injured at Malaekahana Beach on Oahu shortly after the shark encounter.
He played a buccaneer in the fourth instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and appeared in the reboot of Hawaii Five-O and the cult TV series Lost, primarily filmed in Hawaii. He was also featured in the 2002 surf movie Blue Crush.
Beyond his acting career, Perry was a lifeguard and professional surfer, recognized widely within his local community.
“Tamayo’s personality was infectious, and the community loved him deeply. He gave back even more love to everyone around him,” Lager remarked.
Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi expressed his condolences at a press conference, calling Perry’s death “tragic.” “Tamayo was a legendary waterman and highly respected. He was a vital member of our ocean safety team.
