Supreme Court Reserve Seat Ruling Leads 90% of PTI Members to Submit Affidavits

The Supreme Court’s decision regarding the reserved seats of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has provided significant relief to the party.

Following the ruling, PTI National Assembly members elected on the party’s ticket have started submitting their new affidavits to the party secretariat.

To date, 90% of the members have submitted their affidavits, with the remaining members instructed to submit theirs by the end of the day. PTI’s legal representative, Muhammad Azhar Siddique, stated that the party would submit these new affidavits to the Election Commission on Monday. The party has emphasized the urgency of the remaining members complying with today’s deadline.

Prominent PTI members who have submitted their affidavits include former Federal Minister Shehryar Afridi, Jamshed Dasti, and Hammad Azhar’s father, Mian Azhar. Mian Azhar remarked, “I am submitting my affidavit following the Supreme Court’s decision. Having contested the election on February 8, 2024, as a PTI candidate, I should be recognized as a PTI member.”

PTI National Assembly member Syed Raza Ali Gilani has submitted his affidavit to the party chairman. Additionally, MNA Muhammad Ahmed Chattha has affirmed his allegiance to PTI by submitting his affidavit following the Supreme Court’s decision. MNA Rana Bilal Ejaz and assembly member Osama Hamza have also submitted their affidavits at the PTI secretariat.

PTI has declared that all National Assembly members will submit their affidavits affirming their allegiance to the party today. The Supreme Court, in its decision regarding the reserved seats case of the Sunni Ittehad Council, affirmed 39 members as PTI members. However, it required 41 members to submit new affidavits affirming their allegiance to the party within 15 days.
