The individual who interrupted the Super Bowl, Alex Gonzalez, has recently shared the motives behind his audacious act that led to his arrest, after investing $42,000 in front-row tickets only to find himself tackled on the field in a state of partial undress and subsequently detained.
In a conversation with TMZ Sports on Monday, shortly following his release from local custody, Gonzalez unveiled the origins of his plan, which was initially inspired by a wager.
Gonzalez intended to place a prop bet at a Las Vegas sportsbook, betting on the likelihood of a spectator invading the field during the Chiefs vs. Niners matchup. He disclosed this plan to anyone who would listen at a UFC event the day before the Super Bowl, including celebrities like Dr. Phil and the Nelk Boys, encouraging them to place their bets accordingly.
However, Gonzalez encountered a setback when he discovered the specific bet he aimed to place was no longer available. Despite this, having already invested significantly in tickets, he felt too committed to the idea to withdraw. “At this point, I realized I was too deeply involved to back out,” Gonzalez reflected.
Preparations for the stunt included purchasing cleats from a sporting goods store to navigate the Super Bowl turf and other necessary items before heading to Allegiant Stadium.
As the third quarter commenced, Gonzalez and a friend executed their plan. He managed to evade security for several seconds before voluntarily surrendering. Security personnel then escorted him to a holding area within the stadium.
Following the incident, Gonzalez spent the remainder of Sunday night in jail. Despite facing potential misdemeanour charges, his demeanour in a video clip suggests he harbours no regrets regarding the incident.
