Social media platform X swiftly suspended the newly created Hebrew-language account linked to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, just a day after its activation.
The suspension followed a post that appeared to threaten Israel in response to its recent military activities. The message stated, “Zionists are making a miscalculation concerning Iran. They don’t know Iran. They still haven’t correctly understood the Iranian people’s power, initiative, and determination. We need to make them understand these things.”
Platform X enforces community guidelines prohibiting content from “violent and hateful entities,” though it sometimes allows exceptions for state or governmental entities. Despite this, the platform decided to suspend the account, which led to no immediate reaction from Khamenei’s office or representatives from X.
This action comes during a period of increased tension following Israel’s airstrikes targeting Iran earlier in October, which were a response to a ballistic missile incident.
In Iran, platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook are largely inaccessible, with citizens often using virtual private networks (VPNs) to circumvent internet restrictions.
Ayatollah Khamenei’s office maintains several accounts on X, communicating in various languages despite past restrictions and Meta’s removal of accounts on Facebook and Instagram in February for content related to Hamas.
