Karachi: A senior police officer was shot dead in a ‘targeted attack’ in Karachi where violence continued despite anti-criminal crackdown by paramilitary Rangers and police.
According to Samaa correspondent, SHO Preedy Aijaz Khawaja was going somewhere in his car when armed pillion-riders intercepted it near Akhtar Colony on Main Korangi Road, and fired shot on the vehicle.
The SHO was fatally wounded and died on the spot before he could be shifted to hospital, police and rescue officials said.
Following the broad daylight shooting, the attackers managed to flee as police arrived soon after the attack. They said the drive-by attack seemed to be an incident of target killing.
Aijaz Khawaja was third Preedy police station incharge assassinated in two years. Previously, two other SHOs of the same police station have been gunned down by unknown hit-men.
His body was shifted to Jinnah hospital for postmortem.
