Sher Afzal Marwat, a leader from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has formally filed a legal challenge against Ishaq Dar’s appointment as Deputy Prime Minister at the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Marwat contends that Dar, already serving as the Minister of Finance, was appointed to this new role on April 28 without constitutional backing.
In his petition, Marwat argues, “The office of the deputy prime minister is unconstitutional as the Constitution of 1973 does not allow the Prime Minister to appoint a deputy.” He asserts that Dar’s appointment lacks legal foundation and infringes on the principle of separation of powers.
Marwat has urged the IHC to invalidate Ishaq Dar’s appointment as deputy prime minister, declaring it null and void.
This legal challenge follows a previous petition dismissed by the Lahore High Court (LHC), which ruled the challenge against Dar’s appointment as inadmissible. The petitioner had argued that the notification of Dar’s appointment as Deputy Prime Minister was against Pakistan’s Constitution, as there is no provision for the office of Deputy Prime Minister. However, the LHC rejected these claims.
