Shan Masood will retain his role as Pakistan’s captain for the upcoming series against England despite five consecutive losses in his tenure.
Masood, a 34-year-old top-order batsman, was confirmed as the captain of the 15-man squad for the first Test in Multan next month.
Since taking over from Babar Azam in November last year, Masood’s leadership has seen a 3-0 series defeat in Australia, bringing his total losses to five.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Australian head coach Jason Gillespie have chosen to keep Masood in charge to maintain consistency.
The upcoming Test series begins in Multan on October 7. The second Test will also occur in Multan, starting on October 15, with the third scheduled in Rawalpindi from October 24.
The PCB clarified that the current squad selection applies only to the first Test.
“Ahead of the series, players selected will join a training camp in Multan starting October 1,” stated a PCB release.
