Ordering a judicial inquiry into the loss of eight lives in violent scuffles between Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) activists and riot police in Lahore, Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif, vowed yesterday to step down if proven guilty of mis-governance.
“If someone wants to lodge a case against me with police, be my guest”, he said defending Punjab police’s action during a press conference here.
At least eight people were killed Tuesday when police clashed with the Allama Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri’s followers, hospital officials said, a rare act of political violence in the relatively peaceful city
“If I am held responsible, I will immediately quit as chief minister as I cannot even imagine using and have never used any form of brute force against anyone in my current and past tenure(s)”, said Shahbaz during the press briefing.
Chief minister expressed deep shock and grief over the deaths and assured the bereaved families of justice at every cost.
“I am deeply saddened over the killings and I offer my sympathies to Tahir-ul-Qadri and the bereaved families,” he continued.
