In Karachi, a security guard shot and injured two Chinese nationals on Tuesday, according to a police officer, amid reports from the Sindh government describing the incident as a “clash” at a local police station.
Kemari’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Faizan Ali, reported at the incident site, “The injuries to two Chinese [nationals] resulted from a security guard’s firing.”
The Sindh Home Department stated that foreigners and security personnel confronted each other at a police station in the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) Area.
According to the department’s release, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar directed authorities to detain the guard involved.
Lanjar also requested a detailed report from the South deputy inspector general, emphasizing the need for a thorough inquiry to ascertain the facts, and awaited the investigation findings and subsequent police actions.
Lanjar mandated fitness evaluations for security personnel, stressing that only trained and capable guards should be employed. He also commanded a crackdown on unlicensed security firms.
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori expressed his concern for the wounded foreigners and has requested an incident report from Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon.
This incident follows an October attack near Jinnah International Airport, where a Chinese citizen was among those injured in an explosion that killed three and injured ten. The Majeed Brigade of the banned Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for that attack.
