Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was booked into Dallas County Jail after reportedly violating probation conditions tied to last year’s multi-car crash in Dallas, Texas.
The reported violation followed a positive marijuana test, which triggered a 30-day jail sentence under terms connected to Rice’s plea agreement in the Dallas crash case.
Rice is expected to remain in custody during a significant portion of the Chiefs’ offseason programme, including Organised Team Activities (OTAs) and mandatory minicamp sessions.
The Kansas City Chiefs had not publicly commented on the development at the time of reporting.
Rice entered the NFL after playing college football at Southern Methodist University (SMU). The 26-year-old receiver became a key part of Kansas City’s offence because of his physical playing style and ability to gain yards after receptions.
The latest legal issue follows Rice’s involvement in a high-speed multi-car crash in Dallas last year, which already placed the player under legal scrutiny heading into the upcoming NFL season.
Social media users reacted to the news by questioning the impact of the incident on Rice’s professional future and his availability for preseason preparations.
