Barrister Gohar Khan of PTI announced on Monday that independents backed by PTI will join the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). This decision follows a strategic meeting with SIC’s leader, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, aimed at fostering closer collaboration in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies, particularly in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
During the meeting at the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Central Secretariat, discussions revolved around the current political landscape and recent election outcomes. Despite PTI’s inability to directly participate in elections due to electoral symbol issues, the party seeks representation through reserved seats for women and minorities, leveraging alliances with like-minded parties.
At a press conference, Barrister Gohar emphasized that PTI-endorsed independents are legally bound to affiliate with a party within three days post-notification. Consequently, the unanimous decision to join SIC was made, urging the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to allocate PTI its due reserved seats.
Barrister Gohar reiterated allegations of election rigging, claiming PTI’s victory in 180 National Assembly seats despite ECP confirming only 92 seats for PTI-backed candidates. Omar Ayub, PTI’s Prime Ministerial hopeful, voiced confidence in forming the central government and prioritizing the release of PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
Furthermore, SIC chief Sahibzada Hamid Raza confirmed the alliance with PTI, sanctioned by the incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan, highlighting a unified stance across all sects in support of PTI.
