The Government of Sindh has launched the Pink EV Scooty Scheme, a groundbreaking initiative to provide free electric scooters to women across the province. Spearheaded by the Transport and Mass Transit Department and managed by the Sindh Mass Transit Authority, this program aims to enhance mobility, promote independence, and empower female students and working professionals.

The initiative offers comprehensive support to beneficiaries, including:

  • Free electric scooters to improve access to education and workplaces.
  • Training, registration, and helmet provision for safe riding.
  • Access to EV charging infrastructure to support eco-friendly commuting.
  • A commitment to retain the scooty for at least seven years without resale or subletting.

Sindh government is set to launch Pakistan’s first free Pink EV Scooters Scheme, aiming to empower women through improved personal mobility. The scheme builds on Sindh’s efforts to empower women, following the successful Pink Bus service launched in 2023 and plans for a Pink Taxi service with female drivers.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a permanent resident of Sindh.
  • Hold a valid motorbike or car driving license.
  • Be a student enrolled in an educational institution or an employed woman.
  • Pass a road safety skill test if shortlisted.
  • Agree not to sell or sublet the scooty for seven years.

Transparent Selection Process

The selection process ensures fairness and accountability:

  • Applicants are shortlisted through a transparent balloting system.
  • Balloting events are held publicly, with media presence from print and electronic outlets.
  • A supervisory committee oversees the process, including representatives from the Transport, Excise, and Finance Departments and independent media.

Shortlisted candidates undergo a road safety skill test before receiving their scooters.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted online via the Sindh Mass Transit Authority’s official website. Follow these steps:

  1. Visit the website and navigate to the “Projects” section.
  2. Access the “EV Scooty Ballot Form – Application Form”.
  3. Complete the form and upload the required documents, including:
    • CNIC (front and back)
    • Domicile certificate
    • Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC)
    • Valid driving license (front and back)
    • Student ID or employee ID card

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the scheme in Karachi, emphasising the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment. “A driving license is mandatory to ensure safety,” Memon stated, noting that the lucky draw will be a transparent, open event. The initiative reflects Sindh’s broader vision for gender-inclusive transportation solutions.

The Pink EV Scooty Scheme empowers women by providing safe, sustainable, and accessible transportation. By supporting female students and professionals, Sindh is fostering economic independence and gender equality. This initiative, combined with the Pink Bus and upcoming Pink Taxi services, positions Sindh as a leader in women-centric mobility solutions.
