LAHORE: The Punjab government extended the detention of Imran Khan’s three sisters by another 30 days, its lawyer told the Lahore High Court on Monday, which subsequently disposed of their recovery petition.
Justice Abher Gul Khan examined a report submitted on behalf of the Punjab home secretary concerning the continued custody of Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi.
A government lawyer explained that the deputy commissioner had recommended extending their detention and the provincial government had approved the proposal.
However, the petitioner’s counsel sought an order requiring authorities to produce all three women before the court.
The court observed that the deputy commissioner had issued the detention notification but had not been made a party to the proceedings.
Aleema’s son, Shahrez Khan, brought the petition challenging their continued confinement at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail. His counsel maintained that the earlier detention orders had expired on October 19 for Aleema and October 20 for her sisters.

Meanwhile, the government lawyer informed the court that the detention period had been extended on October 7. The Punjab Home Secretary and Kot Lakhpat Jail Superintendent appeared during the proceedings.
Authorities initially detained Aleema in Lahore on September 20 under Section 3 of the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960. Uzma and Noreen were detained the following day under the same provision, following a police recommendation.
Their detention preceded Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned nationwide protests and a September 27 march towards Islamabad. PTI had called the demonstrations to demand the release of its jailed founder and the supremacy of the Constitution.
After reviewing the home secretary’s report and hearing the parties, the court disposed of Shahrez’s petition.
