Philippine Senator Ronald Dela Rosa fled the Senate in Manila after gunshots rang out during a standoff over an International Criminal Court arrest warrant.
Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano said the sergeant-at-arms confirmed Dela Rosa had left the building. Cayetano said Dela Rosa’s wife also confirmed his escape.
The shooting caused panic on Wednesday evening as journalists broadcast from the Senate’s second floor. Videos showed a window with bullet holes after the incident.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said unidentified armed men tried to enter the second floor. He said a Senate security officer fired a warning shot before the men fired in the air.
The Philippine National Police said officers arrested one man over the shooting. Authorities reported no casualties.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said government personnel had no role in the incident. He urged the public to stay calm while investigators identified those involved.
The ICC accuses Dela Rosa of crimes against humanity linked to former President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war. Dela Rosa denies the allegations.
