Parachinar Airport in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reopened after Pakistan Army Aviation completed six successful trial landings and take-offs, authorities said Monday.
The Pakistan Army, Frontier Works Organisation and Pakistan Airports Authority jointly carried out the airport’s revival after a prolonged period of inactivity.
Frontier Works Organisation completed runway and infrastructure upgrades before trial operations took place on April 26, 2026. Officials said Pakistan Army Aviation tested the runway under multiple operational scenarios during the six landings and take-offs.
Authorities declared the runway compliant with professional aviation standards and safety requirements.
Officials said the restoration will improve air connectivity for Parachinar and the surrounding areas of Kurram district, where road travel often faces distance, terrain and security challenges.
The airport’s revival could also support emergency response and relief operations in the region, according to the source material.
A joint team from the Pakistan Airports Authority and Pakistan International Airlines visited Parachinar Airport last year to assess the feasibility of commercial and relief flights.
An eight-member committee, formed on the Ministry of Defence’s directives, oversaw the revival process and conducted a feasibility study for operationalising the airport.
