ATKA, Alaska: A magnitude 5.8 Alaska earthquake struck 99 kilometres southeast of Atka at 11:35 pm local time on July 25 and on July 26.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to the US Geological Survey. The agency reviewed the event and located its epicentre at 51.499 degrees north and 173.306 degrees west.
The USGS issued a green alert through its Prompt Assessment of Global Earthquakes for Response system. The classification indicates a low likelihood of casualties or significant economic losses.

No residents had submitted felt reports to the agency at the time of publication. Officials also received no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage.
The US National Tsunami Warning Centre separately measured the earthquake at a magnitude of 5.7 and a depth of 49 kilometres. However, its information statement confirmed that no tsunami warning, advisory, watch or threat was in effect.
