Karachi, Sindh: Pakistan regional peace efforts had strengthened the country’s role as a peacemaker, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Saturday at the Pakistan Naval Academy.
The prime minister addressed the passing-out parade of the 125th Midshipmen and 33rd Short Service Commission Course.
He said Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts helped reduce tensions between the United States and Iran. Shehbaz said Pakistan’s mediation efforts, backed by brotherly and friendly countries, led to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran.
The prime minister paid tribute to Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for bringing all parties together for peace.
He said Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Pakistan reflected strong brotherly ties between Pakistan and Iran. Shehbaz said the visit also acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace.
He congratulated the newly commissioned officers and urged them to uphold professionalism, courage, discipline and patriotism. The prime minister said the government remained committed to modernising and strengthening the Pakistan Navy.
He said the force must ensure national defence and serve as a stabilising force in the wider maritime region. Shehbaz said the Pakistan Navy produced operational results during Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos.
